Ash is an extremely good burner, one of the best fuel woods and sustainable due to being native and quite a quick grower, though it is in the news with disease spreading, unfortunately.

Splitting into logs is usually very easy, perhaps the easiest wood of all to split and saw

igniting?

It ignites fairly easily, makes perfect start up kindling very easy if cut into small sticks with a hand axe

Does not spark

smoking?

Only smokes when wet, and even then only minimally

heat quality?

Seasons very quickly, is very good for heat and due to its low water content can be burned dry or green

fragrance?

Barely any fragrance when burning
